I enjoy racing of all kinds, real world and sim. Thats why I started sim racing by joining a league. That league was ran like crap so I started my own and it grew into several leagues and still operates to this day over 7 years later.
I’ve seen first hand the pros and cons of modern sim racing and just like the first league that I joined, I think modern sims are increasingly crap and that maybe I could do better. It’s as if the developers don’t even play their own games so I must make a game that I would want to play.
But I was overwhelmed at the time by the thought of the enormous task that is making a modern video game. So I decided to make an RPG style, tabletop race management sim instead.
This of course at the time sounded marvelously simple in comparison, it wasn’t. Once i started layering on all of the systems that I want from a game, it was too much to keep track of and It became obvious over time that I was making a video game I just hadn’t realized it. I simply want to make the game that I would want to play, and I think that others would too!
I think modern sims care too much about realistic graphics and simulating real life down to minute details especially in management sims. Not only is it often confusing and overwhelming just getting started, but after you do learn the systems, management becomes tedious. So the game I want to play will allow me to simulate doing all of the things an owner might do in real life, like buying parts and building cars, and racing, but simulated in a simple and easy manor. Almost arcade like in simplicity but only on the surface, because it will have the depth of a tabletop RPG afterall if you want it.
The game I want to play will have many racing series and types, tracks and things to do, but none will be overly complicated and most systems should be able to be automated so as to make it even easier to handle.
The game should be built around an economy for league racing. All of the things an owner does should be available in multiplayer league play with a whole ecosystem of parts and drivers teams and such.
Since this is a low budget Indie title and I do not want cheating to be an issue and I don’t want the fight between wheel and controller dividing players, the game will not be drivable.
The races will instead be simulated based on factors such as car parts and driver skill. The race shop owner can make race plans and strategy before the race and once everyone is set the race will commence with little input during the race. However in Your League Racer, there may be possible calls needed to be made during the race as well such as pit strategy or unexpected situations.
In the game I want to play the championship points and race structure would be completely designed around having a close championship without any gimmicks. I want a game that is fun racing at the local level all the way up to business mogul but not necessarily easy to get there. I have been working on many systems designed around keeping the game fresh and rewarding over time, and with no micro transactions or pay to win!
Ok I could go on and on but I don’t want to give everything away, suffice to say there are many more ideas and systems being fleshed out. In the end I am making the game I want to play and I will play it, I’m hoping you will join me!
